about bureau42.com

This page will have witty content someday. In the meantime, you can read about the staff:

Dave had this to say:

Cloud: ...
Eldhrin had this to say:

My writing experience is not really in reviews, and my training is not in writing. I hold a degree in Computer Science, and my weekdays consist of fixing bugs in bits of software for a large multi-national company whom you've probably heard of. I write fiction which is usually either science fiction or fantasy, but is rarely any good.

I play the recorder and I recently began learning the viola de gamba, which is not the same thing as the viola. I also like to cook and reduce the level of universal ignorance (also known as teaching).

My primary ambitions are to gain a performance diploma on the recorder, learn to play the crumhorn (a wonderfully obsolete instrument resembling an umbrella handle), get a novel published and join the police.

I live in Nottingham in the United Kingdom, where I amuse myself by correcting misuse of the apostrophe.

fiziko had this to say:

As you can probably tell, I have no formal training in any sort of critiquing or professional writing. (My first two degrees are in physics, and my third in Education.) I've been a TV and movie junkie for most of my life, so I signed up for this when Dave put out a call for volunteers. I'm currently working a new job that's consuming about 70-80 man hours a week, so my reviews will be coming out more slowly this summer than previous years.

hitch had this to say:

It occurrs to me that you probably don't care what I put in the About Me section but, being a geek that writes for the web, I quickly squash that thought under a mountain of ego and self promotion. I'm the least prolific author for the Bureau, primarily due to the invention of the TiVo and subsequent shifting of my television schedule several days behind everyone else's. I'm employed at AOL in the states and spend most of my time deflecting the hate that emanates directly from the internet into my cube. (We're really not that bad, people.) Hobbies include reading (things I should really review), watching sci-fi and fantasy (that I should really review), cycling, writing, and cooking. For better insight into the weirdness that is my life, visit The Propheteer to read up on...well, everything that I don't post here. (I don't update there very frequently either)

theangrymob had this to say:

TheAngryMob (n): (1) The only true justice left in the world; (2) Technical writer, Web developer, Sci-Fi addict, and all around geek.

Timeshredder had this to say:

I live somewhere in Canada with my wife. I'm a gainfully-employed professional, but prefer to write. I've published one book, Snow-Man's Land (Michi-Mook, 1995) which you didn't read, and I've workedshopped several plays with teenagers. I've also had numerous short pieces published, though lately my writing has been online and unpaid. I write for four sites, including my own, best-known for the Unified Field Crossover History of the Universe.

Doubtless my work-in-progress will win me fame and fortune; I would, however, be willing to settle for mere fortune.

I keep involved with the lives of my friends, my seven nieces and nephews, and my former teen sidekick (now a young adult), with whom I wrote a highly commercial (we thought) screenplay which, thus far, has failed to net an agent.

And now, the annoying legal disclaimers: (clearing throat)

All content on the Web site www.bureau42.com is © Copyright by its respective creator. TV/movie reviews, news stories, and other article postings are owned by their authors; comments are owned by their authors. News article submissions and anything else that ends up in the "submit news" queue will probably end up being owned by us. The code itself is owned by David E. Smith. Many links on this site will take you to others' sites; there, their own copyrights and legal notices apply, not mine (obviously). Be sure you know who you're stealing from before you steal, folks.

This site may collect your email address, if you voluntarily provide this information. It will not be used for "spam" or in fact for much of anything -- if you lose your password, we can email it to you, but that's really the only thing I ever intend to do with it.

Minimal information is logged about you and your visits -- just enough to do routine, aggregated traffic analysis (i.e. see how many people visit, how long they stay, what they read, and so on). Aside from the (optional) email address listed above, nothing that can identify you personally is logged.

"Bureau 42" is a trademark of George Sessen, and is used here by his permission. He's not likely to give such permission to anyone else, though...

"Bureau 42" is in no way associated with "Bureau 13" or for that matter "Section 31".

Some graphic elements used under license from The Animation Factory. Don't worry, though, I edited 'em to disable the silly animation parts. The Playstation logo belongs to Sony. Harry Potter belongs to J.K. Rowling; I'm just borrowing him, don't worry. I probably forgot to credit someone or something at some point -- please don't sue. All trademarks are acknowledged to be the property of their owners. "The X-Files" belongs to Ten Thirteen Productions. Firefly belongs to Joss Whedon, and damn the Fox network for cancelling that show. (I could go on like this for a while.)
