Here is another lackluster week.

Alex: Swords Masters release Shaw Brothers film with a gloriously Engrish-y title, but without the Wuxia.
Karate Girl | |
A spiritual successor to semi-recent Japanese martial arts film “High Kick Girl”.
Let the Bullets Fly | |
Alex: I’m really not sure if this is a more traditional Chinese action film, or if this is a western film… except out in the Chinese frontier.
Swordsman and Enchantress
Alex: Another Swords Masters release of Shaw Brothers film, and an actual Wuxia film.
Underworld Awakening | |
Anime | |
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood Complete Collection 1
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood: The Sacred Star of Milos
Fushugi Yugi: Season 1 | |
Alex: While this series is considered something of a classic, I can’t help but feel that Media Blasters (who released this under their Anime Works label) could have released Record of Lodoss War in place of this.
Golgo 13 – Collection 3 | |
Jyu-Oh-Sei (Planet of the Beast King)
SAVE Edition | |
Kite | |
Alex: I’m not sure about whether this is the borderline pornographic censored version, or the actually pornographic uncensored version.

The Perils of Pauline (1933) |
|
Blaine: Despite the description, this is NOT the 1914 version. The cast and images are for the 1933 version, which makes more sense, as the 1914 version is believed to be lost. This is not the 15 part serial that established the “woman tied to railroad tracks” and “runaway carriage heading for cliff” tropes that were pervasive in later movie serials. Instead, this is a wholly unrelated 12 part serial from 1933 that “borrowed” a marketable name and told a completely different story.
RKO 281 |
|
The battle behind “Citizen Kane.”

Science Fiction | |
Seasonal | |

Superhero | |
Marvel Animated Features: 3-Movie Collection
Blaine: Includes “Planet Hulk,” “Invincible Iron Man” and “Doctor Strange.” I found two of those quite enjoyable.
Marvel Anime – Iron Man |
|
Marvel Anime – X-Men |
|
Ultimate Avengers Movie Collection
Suspense | |
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy |
|
The Alec Guinness version, not the new version.

Western |
Finally, the picks of the week. Blaine says, “keep waiting.” Alex says, “Agreed – unless you’re looking for Shaw Brothers films, unless this is a good week.”
RKO 281 is worth seeing, if you’re a fan of Citizen Kane.
