MTV Has Spider-Man
posted September 9 2003, 4:22 am by fiziko

Category: TV Series Alexius writes, I Was Shocked, But As My Sisters Are flipping Through The Channels After Watching StarGate, They Pause On eMpTyV, And To My Surprise, We Find We're Watching Spider-Man. I Stayed Glued To It For an Hour (The Longest I've Watched Television Since Angel Went Into Re-Runs, And The Longest I've Watched eMpTyV Since I Finished Puberty). Anyone Else Even Know This Was Out There? I suppose we could have said something when this started up about a month ago. We forgot to mention Cartoon Network's new Duck Dodgers cartoon, too, which has also been on the air a few weeks. Canadian viewers can watch Duck Dodgers on Teletoon on Thursday nights, but I'm unaware of any Canadian stations running the new Spider-Man.

Yeah, My First Thought Was "Why Wasn't I Told About This, I'm Not Going To Be Watching eMpTyV To Find Out About It!"

Then I Realized That Odds Were Good No One Else Would Have Known Either, So I Figured I Should Tell Someone.

I've caught it a few times but its not one of the shows I actually schedule time for.

Still, it wasn't bad, the animation style reminded me of a computer generated Aeon Flux. Mmmmmm, eye-flys....

Those of you with good old YTV can catch the new Spider-Man Fridays at 9pm. I wasn't aware that it was being carried by them until this past Friday, when I caught the show as I was waiting for my ride to the bar. It's pretty good (though the MJ character is scary looking, everything else is beautiful - the animation is by Mainframe, of ReBoot fame and is fully computerized, but heavily influenced by cell shading and comics), plus Spidey is voiced by Doogie Howser, MD.

Of course, if he ever starts keeping a computer journal, I'm done with the show.

Quit channeling JMS. In one of the recent Amazing Spider-Man issues, Spidey mused over just that thing. He also pondered selling his naming rights to Microsoft, but realized he'd be hosed just having to get new costumes: "Spidey98... Spidey2000... SpideyXP... SpideyWhatDoYouMeanIGottaUpgradeAGAIN..."

My 3 year old is a Spiderman freak, and my wife is a music freak, so I've been watching it since the first episode. I even record it every week for my sons to watch. It's been fairly good so far, and I'm fond of the Mainframe animation.

So... sorry I dropped the ball and didn't let you in on it :(. Of course, nobody realy paid attention when I was hawking The Dead Zone, so didn't really see the point ;)

Unfortunately, no. I don't have video in on this computer, and this week's episode gets recorded over last weeks episode, generally. That's our old fashioned version of time-shifting content. The good news is if you do get MTV, you get 2 shows every week. They play a repeat right after the new episode each week, though it's usually of the week before. I've also seen the epsodes on one or another bittorrent site, I'm not sure which one. I'll have to look. Suprnova.org doesn't seem to have them.

Gets better as the season goes on....

I saw the first few episodes and thought the CGI sucked. Then I started watching from episode 6 and really got hooked. Kinda nice that the movie actors are doing the voices. I wonder if they'll stop producing this after the next movie. Or worse yet lose the voice actors (like the Jackie Chan animated series).

Uhh.. Very few from the movie actually do the voices. Spidey/Pete is done by neil patrick harris(and does a good job), Mj is done by lisa loeb, and harry's voice is ian ziering(sp?). The voices are all celebrities, and well known. Pretty good job they did.

I've been watching it for a few weeks now, thought everyone used TiVo to search for things only to be surprised when it's not the cartoon & a new show with rock stars & old kid stars doing voices
