Braga: I’m Done With Trek

No joke people. One-half of the wonder twins is quitting the Trek game, at least for the “foreseeable future.”

I’m actually choking back tears of joy.

Some choice quotes from the article:

“There will be a lot of fans cheering about that.” – Umm, so you knew you sucked and yet did nothing to improve anything?

“Star Trek was very good to me.” – And yet you refused to return the favor? Bastard.

“…there just comes a point where I’m not sure what else I would have to give.” – Which translates into: “I’ve got nothing left to rip off.”

  1. Yay!!
Now all that’s left is for Threshold to be canceled!!

Threshold was definitive proff that yes, Braga was really a big problem for Star Trek.

Ya know, I’m actually enjoying Threshold. As is my wife, who watches very little TV. She was amazed it “didn’t suck”.

That’s cause for a celebration all right! Woo!

Although, upon slightly more thought, one wonders… First Contact was excellent, yet Braga co-wrote it. So where did the rot set in that made more recent Trek things (not to mention Generations) suck so much?

WEll… compared to Generations and Star Trek: Date Movie, it was damn fine.

Okay so I liked it. You have to admit it beats Star Trek V: The something I can’t remember because it was so dull

It was a good action movie. It finally gave us Data kicking some ass, and the Borg queen might have turned into a depressingly lame and overused character, but she was deliciously creepy in this movie.
Basically, it was the last good ST movie. Meaning that the single-digit even numbered ST movies are good (the single-digit rule having appeared when Nemesis came out ;-)

Well, I found the Star Trek films with the Next Gen cast that Johnathan Frakes directed were (if not good) at least tolerable. IIRC, Wil Wheaton mentioned on his blog that the director’s commentary made clear the lack of respect the director of Nemesis had for canon (you know, if they had gotten Nick Meyer back for that one, it could have been much, much better).

You don’t need a “single digit” rule, you just need an
                overriding “multiple of five” rule.

I believe it was Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.
If memory serves, that’s the one where Kirk fights God and
wins. I’m an Atheist, and even I’m offended by that one.
(I haven’t seen it, as a person who taught himself Klingon
told me it would be a waste of my time, but I read the
              script online.)

                That was it, yes.

That wasn’t God, but there are plenty of other reasons for that movie to offend everyone of every race and creed.

It was God in the draft of the script I read. Perhaps some
of that studio meddling Shatner complained about removed
that particular label from the character. (If so, the
studio meddling did something right for a change…)

Even a broken watch is right twice a day

    • Re: One down

      Rick Berman must die.

Braga was his Igor… the real grave robber is still running loose!

Yeah, I have to say Braga has had his ups and downs, and I really liked First Contact… It seems to me that this is the statement we want from Berman rather than Braga though.

  2. Yeah right
Flash forward 2 years into the future:

Exec1: OK, we need to do something with Trek.
    Exec2: Why?
Exec1: WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING WITH TREK! Any ideas?
Exec3: Hire proven sci-fi writers that can explore the Trek universe in unique and interesting ways?
Exec1: Who are you and how did you get in this office? SECURITY!
Exec4: Hey, I saw Braga sleeping in a cardboard box outside a Denny’s last night, maybe we could hire him?
Exec1: Didn’t he say a couple years back he was done with Trek? Are we sure he’ll do it?
    All: *Uproarious laughter*
Exec1: Heh, OK, seriously, go give Braga $20 and a Sausage McMuffin, get Berman out of his box, and tell them we need a pilot for Star Trek: Monster Hunters by the end of the month.

    • Re: Yeah right
      mmmm… McMuffin.

Sorry, I just wanted to do something to draw attention to that post, because I was reading it at lunch and everyone else in the restaurant was looking at me funny because I just had to laugh at that one.

  3. Cue Monty Python
“…And there was much rejoicing. ‘*Yay.*’ ”

In other news, I now understand just why Threshold sucks so much… ;)

I have not watched it yet, please expand on why.

I like Threshold. It can be a little “moster of the week”, except every week its the same monsters (just a new way of acting up).

As far as alien invasion stories go, I think its an interesting and novel concept.

Most of the acting is good, though they do too much walking down hallways spouting exposition.

Sure it WAS an interesting concept, until they magically figured out everything about the signal in the pilot episode and turned the show into “Monster of the week”. It is at the realization of that point that I deleted all of Threshold from my DVR. At least the writers of Invasion know how to build suspense in their writing.

  4. Not the main problem
As loathsome as Braga might have been, he wasn’t the main problem…Berman was the proverbial Big Bad, in terms of Trek’s creative problems.

Tell me that Berman and Jeri Taylor (the other part of the [bad] dream team) have also both quit/been fired, and then maybe we will be able to talk seriously about Trek and phoenix impersonations in the same sentence.

    But not before.
