Billie Piper to leave Doctor Who

The BBC have the story that Billie Piper is to leave Doctor Who at the end of the current series. Piper has played Rose Tyler since the start of the 2005 series.

There is no word on who is going to replace her, but I personally am hoping that series three develops to have two or more regular companions.

Or just bring Ace back, that would suit me very well indeed.

No hurry to come back. I've grown to really dislike her, probably because they're trying to build a romantic subplot between her and the Doctor. I suppose the Beast's prophecy will prove true, it'd be strange to not use it now.

Yes I don't care for that either. The only other time I'm aware of the Doctor showing romantic interest in a companion was in that awful movie. It's just not right, and it's starting to get in the way of the stories.

This actor doesn't know a good thing when it signs their paycheck, just like Wil Wheaton (and I respect the guy 'cos he understands his mistake).

I say, the Doctor should either (while looking to the past) rescue Atric ( a most unique event ) or ask Sarah-Jane to consider if she *really* *really* is happy with Torchwood/normal-life.

It'd be interesting to watch a companion who understands that all things (including being a companion, a planet, a star or even a star system or race of sentient) are transient, are temporary, are moral and don’t last as long as a Gallifrey time-lord, a different/viewer friendly/viewer knowledgeable perspective on Doctor Who at which was hinted in School Reunion (Season 28, Episode 3).

The song playing in the background when the Doctor was fixing K-9 and chatting with Sarah in the cafe was "Love Will Tear Us Apart", by Joy Division. Too obscure to be a coincidence. :)

Yes, I could swear I remember reading this same exact news story (that Billie Piper would be leaving Dr. Who after her second season.) sometime around the end of last season.

Yup, about the same time we were still pissed at Goofy for leaving. But since the new Doctor is a lot of fun, we're okay with it. So hopefully, Rose will be replaced with an upgrade too ;-)

I have to mention at this point that I would be MORE than happy to take her place as a Companion. I know, I don't have as much nerd-appeal as a sexy chick, but perhaps that could be addressed by having a sexy female doctor (that's possible in theory, right? Heck, get Billie Piper to play The Doctor!)

In fact, to add nerd-appeal, I should be able to figure out how to use the TARDIS and in fact find many innovative ways to improve it, such as making it run Linux. Also I'd have a light-saber and would use it to fight the daleks which have yet again not really been destroyed. I will also figure out a way to pilot that TARDIS into alternative, parallel universes where I will have a goatee and a fling with Kira Nerys.

In the end I will sacrifice myself to save... either one special person or an entire planet/galaxy/universe. I haven't decided, but the point is that when I leave the show, it will be because I have died.

...or did I?...

Will she die in battle? Since the last episode is titled 'Doomsday' it sounds like a possibility. With all the lovey-dovey stuff (barf) it isn't like she is about to pop off and marry some other guy, or say 'and boy am I sick of that sonic screwdriver' and go pack her bags.

So, how will she die? Probably self sacrifice of some kind but I kinda hope not. That been done to death. ha ha ha!

Hopefully the Dr will quickly get past this mid-life crisis of his once she's gone. It would have been so much better if the Dr was a kind of father figure for her instead of romantic interest.

Well, there has been at least one reference to last year's finale so far this year. Perhaps there will be a complication from that? For that matter, she could just get caught in the crossfire if the Doctor ends up going up against Torchwood. That would be somehow satisfying, actually. As long as they don't do it as sort of rerun of the "predestination paradox" from the Bad Wolf thing.
