Large and Varied Marvel News
posted September 12 2006, 6:05 am by fiziko

Category: Comics There was a lot of news regarding Marvel comics announced yesterday. Newsarama has a series of articles, and the announcements are summarized in this one. The ones that most interest me: Joss Whedon and Michael Ryan take over Runaways with issue 25, JMS will write the new Thor, and when Spider-Man ditches the Iron Spidey look, he's going back to the black costume rather than the red and blue. Numerous other announcements are in there, too.

Black costume?!

This doesn't mean Venom's going to merge with him again, does it?

I don't see why. He wore a fabric black costume for some time after the symbiont wasn't a part of him, and only changed back to the red and blue because Mary-Jane found it too disturbing after she had an encounter with Venom.

What's he wearing in the third movie?

Thor

So what is the "Thor" comic about? What sort of stuff does he do? When he's not working with the Avengers, that is.

For example, does he fight the same kind of supervillains as everybody else, or does he handle more epic (or personal?) challenges?

Full details won't be available until after "Civil War" wraps up, given that Thor is about to become a major player in that series. Traditionally, he's faced off against Loki and other Norse gods and villains, though if you go far enough back, he faced off against the same bank robbers every Marvel hero faced in the 1960s. The new Thor is probably different than some previous incarnations, but we won't know until everything until early next year.
