this earlier today, and thought it might be of
interest to my fellow bureaucrats. It’s an
interesting take on the creation of the Rebellion
that gives R2′s role far more significance without
having to rewrite history.

Holy Crap!
Just… wow.

like it
I had just read this yesterday. I rather like this interpretation of events, if nothing else, because it is a whole lot cooler to have the two non-speaking (as far as we understand) main characters having greater roles.
It also reminds me of a spoof that had Gonk portrayed as the main character of the story. Too bad he didn’t show up in the prequels (as far as I remember).

Re: like it
I recall being mildly disappointed that there weren’t Gonks everywhere in the "past" of the prequels.

Impressive.
I’ve read a lot of "what-if" analysis about the SW 1-3/4-6 inconsistencies, and this is hands down the best. It has managed to transform stupid things in the first three movies into important plot points (Chewbacca being a high-ranking officer in the Wookie army is the clearest example of all). I can only thank the author for giving back some brains to the Star Warts universe.

Re: Impressive.
It’s amazing the length to which fans will go to make sense of what was obviously bad plotting. Impressed as I am, I still prefer my own retcon:
the prequels didn’t happen.

Re: Impressive.
Like explaining the Kessel Run/Parsec error by involving a black hole?

Re: Impressive.
I always figured Han was snowing his potential customers, whom he figures for rubes.

Re: Impressive.
That was why I submitted it – it made me feel less ashamed of being a Star Wars fan in the wake of the prequels. Plus, it’s probably one of the best retcons I’ve ever seen, as it manages to do its job without actively removing anything too obtuse.

Retcon
Retcon FTW!
(*good* retcon, admittedly)

Spelling
Really good, but he has (consistently) misspelled "Kashyyyk", "Tatooine", and "Millennium". I wish there was some sort of contact information other than just his name.

Man, google is something. And Kevin Martin is a common name.
