Dresden Files: 'Second City' (Season Finale)

Dresden and Murphy must work together to solve the mystery of a former gang member who drowns on dry land, miles from the nearest lake. Meanwhile, Murphy's father is in town, and he doesn't have a very high opinion of his daughter's freelance consultant.

This marks the end of the season. A little digging around hasn't turned up any mention of whether or not this got picked up for a second season. I'd like to see more. It's light enough to be fun, but deep enough to keep me interested. What do you think?

I didn't like the first episode, so I didn't watch for the following few weeks. Then I decided to give it another try and I'm now really enjoying it. It, Battlestar and Doctor Who are all I watch on TV at the moment.

In the UK we are up to the episode with Claudia Black (and her funky accent).

And, on a related note...

The season finale of Dresden was the first place that I have seen commercials for the second season of Eureka. YEA!!!

I haven't had a chance to see the finale yet due to some sort of Tivo hiccup (probably a missed priority issue), but I hope it makes its way back. If it was pulling at least decent numbers, I figure it will since it's probably much cheaper to make than some of their other shows (the SGs and BSG in particular).
The season finale of Dresden was the first place that I have seen commercials for the second season of Eureka. YEA!!!

Now that is awesome news! Eureka was a close second to Heroes in terms of good new genre TV last year, so I'm glad it did well enough to warrant making new episodes.

I never watched Eureka. From your comments I assume its worth watching.

This episode of Dresden files was very good. Would be good to get a second season.

You may safely make that assumption. ;)

The premise is basically this: A US Marshal becomes the sheriff in a town built by the government to house genius scientists. Super-science fun ensues.

There's a bit more involved, including a powerful object (possibly alien?) that is considered too dangerous to study directly, a mysterious woman working for some nefarious organization which seeks to control said object, the sheriff's misbehaving teenage daughter, etc.

Anyway, it's fun stuff with a healthy amount of comedy tossed into the dramatic mix. David Greenwalt (of Angel fame) is listed as a "consulting producer" which makes the funny less than surprising.

I've been really enjoying Dresden and I hope its done well enough for a second season. I agree that it had a good mix of fun and depth. Also its been good seeing a more subtle form of magic (at least at times) in a TV show.

SciFi won't announce if there's going to be a second season for a few months (even the writers/cast/etc won't know before then). Honestly I'll be amazed if it doesn't get renewed as it was pulling ratings similar to Battlestar, and Battlestar is their highest rated show.

I'm a fan of the books, and while not thrilled with some of the translation from book to TV, taking the show on its own I've really enjoyed it.

I liked the finale episode a lot. Was is just me or did Murphy pretty much invite Dresden to kiss her again with that apology at the end of the episode?

I think so. :)

And this darn well better get renewed. As others have said, it's light, yet interesting. Nice change of pace from the ANGST (yes, all caps) of BSG. The ANGST on BSG has been satisfyingly played, but the fun of Dresden is well appreciated. Harry's my new hero! I'm going to read the books until the next season airs.

In the book Dresden had only two romantic interests I can recall, one became a half vampire, and one is just demon in his head.

He didn't realize he liked Murphy until book seven. (Though they don't want to "ruin" their friendship to explore it).

I wish Amazon would hurry up and ship me <i>White Night</i>!!!

Hehe I started reading White Night the day it came out, you're going to like it. There's some very interesting developments with Lashiel, though it sort of came about REALLY quickly. There's also a nice observation in there that sums up Harry and Murphy's relationship: basically it boils down to Murphy wants casual and Harry doesn't want/can't do casual with her so they're at an impass

Oh yea, great show. I really enjoy it. I can't imagine it not continuing.

But then, I wouldn't have imagined them trying to kill off such a great show as Battlestar Galactica either.

Oh and I agree on Eureka. Glad to see it got picked up, its a fun show.

I don't think they're trying to kill Battlestar Galactica, I think they're trying end it right. And as a Babylon 5 fan I really, really appreciate that.

However I agree with everyone else on Eureka and Dresden files. Sci-Fi is really making some quality shows right now.

Hi

I hope this doesn't sound sad, but I am a huge fan of the Dresden Files and I would be devastated if it ended.
It's my favourate show to-date, forget Lost, Daybreak, even Heroes. I watch them all, but I look forward to watching the Dresden Files the most.

I love Paul Blackthorne's offbeat, quirky style and the outlandish storyline; who needs CSI when you can watch a show that's original. It's a breath of fresh air in a time when television is satuated with the same old crime shows, CSI, Criminal Minds, CSI Miami BLAH...

When the Dresden Files 1st series came to an end, I was on the internet like a flash, searching for confirmation that another series is in the pipeline.

I have become a huge Paul Blackthorne fan and will really miss him in this role that suits him so much. I'm an aspiring writer by the way, http://www.myspace.com/jaydeedaley and this show is right up my street.

Do you know they cancelled the original Star Trec too early and each series is like gold dust now. I know a hit when I see one, 'The Dresden Files'.
