NBC fall schedule - more "Heroes," more sci-fi

Variety is reporting that NBC has announced its fall schedule. Highlights include Heroes: Origins, a six part series replacing reruns of Heroes that will introduce characters not seen on the show, with viewer votes determining which character(s) will join the cast in season three. Other new genre shows include an updated Bionic Woman (from Battlestar Galactica writer/producer David Eick), Chuck (about a hacker turned government agent when loads of information is downloaded into his head) and Journeyman (which sounds to me like Quantum Leap or Time Tunnel.)

The Heroes:Origins thing sounds like a great idea. I especially like the choosing a new Heroes character bit.

I am super glad to hear that Heroes gets a second season. In my opinion it is one of the two best shows on television (BSG is the other, of course).

I am super glad to hear that Heroes gets a second season. In my opinion it is one of the two best shows on television (BSG is the other, of course).

Okay, I've got no problem with them telling more stories of the Heroes world. Unlike some, I can handle slow advancement of a plot as long as the characters remain interesting. But, adding the voting nonsense is just a terrible idea and it's no way to run a scripted fictional show. I can only hope that the voting will be fixed - you know, like American Idol - and that they'll use the characters that fit best in the story instead of using a popularity contest to build storylines. I don't want to "Choose [My] Own Adventure." I want good writers, directors and actors to show me their adventure.

That's not what it is: the votes choose which characters come back in the next season, not the currently running one. That gives them lots of time to develop good stories around them, and even if the character isn't that useful, they don't have to use them much. On the other hand, if the audience likes them, why not? Helo wasn't supposed to continue after he got left behind on Caprica, but the audience liked him, so they figured out a way to bring him back in. This is just a more direct way of doing that.

The good news is that the networks seem to be getting the message loud and clear: quick f-ing around with the schedule! Whether fox will get it is unlikely, but we can hope...

Sounds too much like reality TV to me. It smacks of American Idol or something. Hopefully it will stay tame...

I still think Heroes is too slow, even when there is a call in the episode for action, they downplay or skip it! Face it, the directors just don't know how to film an action scene. The origins idea is a good one though, I'm voting for Feedback!

I think there is quite enough action fests on the television, thanks, but I will pass. Not that I dislike action, exactly the opposite. It is just that I am really digging this show as it is, a story driven show. There is action, but it just is secondary to the story. I get the feeling that we are going to get an action driven season finale though, which would be good.

Sounds like a cross between Johnny Mnemonic and that show from a few years ago of a guy with amnesia but who knew everything. I.e. sounds stupid.

That would be John Doe. Which I thought was an interesting premise, and it was pretty enjoyable, although it could have been executed a bit better in parts...
