This was a fantastic season finale. For a season that started pretty good but went into a deep lull in the middle during the incredibly poorly timed and executed "mid season delay" I got into it in a big way the last 5 or 6 episodes. Only thing is that I'm sad I have to wait 9 months for the next season (which will be shorter, 16 episodes as will the final two seasons following it).

Lots of goodies in this one, well worth the wait.

Catch the anagram? My theory on who's in the casket is Michael due to the neighborhood, but who knows. I really enjoyed the "bonding" (bondaging?) experience between mother and daughter. How about the death of Charlie?! How the hell does that Russian never die? What the hell is wrong with Jack? Way to go Hurley! They get OFF THE ISLAND?!!!

Better than Heroes finale (though I didn't hate Heroes finale it just was a tad anticlimactic compared to all of the buildup). Can't wait for more!

BTW, for any comics fans out there Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Runaways, Ex Machina) joined the writing staff as of a few eps back. Though it is impossible to know what he wrote for Lost, I love his work and I can't help but think the show has to be better for it.

I enjoyed the "Lost" finale too. I spent the day after it aired discussing it with friends and family. The things I love about "Lost" are that it generates discussion and fires the imagination, never insults your intelligence, and isn't afraid to take chances. Of course, the high degree of difficulty increases the likelihood of failure on the producers' part. I'm still hopeful that it will resolve well in the end, and this finale helped to reinforce that hope.

Having said that, the (admittedly) less ambitious "Heroes" finale was also good. I enjoyed the fact that they wrapped up the story (leaving a few loose ends). There is value in both models, I think. I would have been disappointed if "Heroes" had gone the route of leaving us hanging. The long-term mysteries and unanswered questions in "Heroes" are less central to the overall plot of the show.

Yeah, I'm not sure how someone with a harpoon through his lung (or heart?) can hold his breath (or even manage to breath with SCUBA gear) and move his left arm well enough to swim. Hopefully the grenade made him shark food. At any rate... just when you thought Charlie might make it out alive. But, oh, it was great to see Penny! I thought Charlie might re-enable the jammer to protect the islanders from the "rescue", but I guess it's up to Des now.

Indeed. I'm glad he finally got to prove himself, though I was a bit worried he was going to take a bullet.
They get OFF THE ISLAND?!!!
Well, yes, but maybe not right away. There was no indication of how far in the future the "flashback" is. They will eventually get off the island, but probably not with/because of Naomi. That's not to say it won't happen, and the remaining 48 episodes could be about putting their lives back together, discovering their past connections, etc. However, since Jack was unable to return to the island, that would remove any possible stories revealing its secrets, and I don't think that's something the writers are willing to do. Plus, now that we know they eventually get off the island, we don't actually have to ever see it.

Also, since it's "NOT PENNYS BOAT" (RIP Charlie), then there's obviously something to go wrong with Naomi's rescue a) because she's lying and b) so Penny can save Des. But, why would Naomi be looking for Desmond *and* have the picture of he and Penny if she weren't legit? Would Penny's father be so eager to have him remain lost?

And the whole flash-forward thing was a great twist. I wasted a lot of mental effort trying to figure out when the "flashback" happened. When the shadowy figure was revealed to be Kate, I thought, "They can't be saying they knew each other before the flight."

Now, here's a question. Did Ben really know about Naomi, or was it just another lie that was coincidentally the truth? It was very satisfying to a) see someone NOT give in to threats (stupid Bernard, Sayid should have shot him) and b) see Ben get the shit beat out of him. As much as I like Sayid and Jin, the Others disobeying Ben was a bit of cheating on the writers' behalf.

I also really like what they're subtlely doing with Sawyer. Now that he's fulfilled his quest, he doesn't quite know who he is any more. I'm surprised he hasn't already dropped the name Sawyer, especially since people are hearing him called Ford by the others.

By mid-season, I was determined only to ride out to the season finale, then stop watching. But, the last 3 or 4 episodes have been superb, and I'll definitely be onboard for the long-haul, now that there is a set length.

Spoilerage follows:

Hoffs/Drawlar is an anagram of "Flash Forward"

I don't think Jack was suicidal over who was in the casket. I think it was that perhaps either they left people there. Or maybe Juliet dies at some point. He seems to like her, perhaps it gets more serious. I suspect that Sawyer and Kate end up an item but who knows. It is possible there could be any number of people that could have major falling out with each other in the next 48 episodes. It is also certainly possible that there are new character we've yet to meet.

It is also possible that maybe Jack finds that somehow the island "heals" him in some way we've yet to understand that he wants to get back to it. I mean his life seemed to be in turmoil upon closer look before the crash and worse after he gets off the island.

Certainly there is something with Jacob too that has yet to be explained especially how Walt mysteriously came to Locke after he was shot in the chest.

Actually, if you listen to what Tom says, he's angry that they obeyed Ben's orders not to kill them. He felt like they should pay for the Others they killed. It's an easy mistake to make since they [for dramatic purposes, of course] never showed Ben giving the order to pretend to kill them, especially since the Others were starting to seem dissatisfied with Ben's leadership.

Because he believed he had to die in order for Claire to be rescued? Personally I don't see how the two can be causally connected, but Charlie seemed to believe it in Greatest Hits.

And... Given what we know about this show, how can anyone be sure Charlie will be DOA with next season's opener? I have a suspicion he DID get out the window, but we won't know for a bit...

I hope someone is still reading this thread, I just caught up to the season finale today and there is one statement that is really bugging me. It was in one of the flash forwards, when the other surgeon was talking to Jack, and Jack said (paraphrased) to go upstairs and find his father and see if he is more drunk than Jack. Either Jack is so out of it that he's forgetting his father is dead, and just using his anger about his father's alcoholism to justify his own behavior, or something weird is going on (remember his father's empty casket in season one?).
