"...no Bureau authors currently plan to see it"? Why not?

It was fun eye candy. Lots more character development, then the original series episodes. Unique style that will be imitated by less talented producers.

Psychedelic car-foo with ninjas and vikings.

My Take

It was different, I'll say that. "Psychedelic" and "eye-candy" are definitely good ways to describe it. I give it a 5.5 out of 10. Worth seeing, but don't go into it with massive expectations.

I don't think it's going to do very well in terms of sales. There were more people going to see Iron Man than Speed Racer at the theater I was at.

Live action cartoon

They really accomplished creating a live action cartoon. The show literally leapt off the screen. Now it is debatable whether creating a live action cartoon was a good thing or not.

But, they definitely captured the look and feel of the original cartoon. I really liked some of the scenes that were pulled directly from episodes of the cartoon, especially the one describing what the Mach 5's buttons did. Then again the cartoon was very cheesy and the movie ventured heavily into that realm too.

I enjoyed it. Fun eye candy

Go see it. No, it's not Social Commentary, it's not Deep. It's FUN. I enjoyed Iron Man, and this is nothing like it - it's eye candy, pure and simple, with some funny bits, some definitely trippy psychedelia at the end, and a simple story. But it's definitely worth watching on the big screen - it will definitely lose a lot on your TV.
