Summer is here, and the video manufacturers have found that few people stay home to watch movies on the July 4 weekend, so don't expect great stuff until next week.
The American Film Theater Complete 14 Film Collection: Kino video always does a great job with this sort of thing. Includes "The Iceman Cometh," "A Delicate Balance," "The Man In The Glass Booth," "Rhinoceros," "Butley," "The Maids," "Luther," "In Celebration," "Three Sisters," "The Homecoming," "Galileo," "Lost In The Stars," "Philadelphia, Here I Come!" and "Jacques Brel Is Alive And Well And Living In Paris."
My Blueberry Nights (The Miriam Collection): You may not have heard of it, but Kai War Wong is one of the most dependable directors out there, with a flair for romantic feel. (In fact, his earlier "Chungking Express" will be one of Criterion's first Blu-Ray releases this October.)
Finally, the pick of the week. In a week this weak, I definitely go with the "Batman: The Movie" release in the highest definition you can handle. Next week has better Batman product, but this will be a good dose of fun before the next Nolan/Bale outing.
