I vote we change the show's name to "Contrived Plotlines And Random Superpowers".

I like

"Contrived Randomness And Plotlines" better. But maybe I spend too much time thinking of acronyms.

I agree with the acronym, but I personally don't think this show deserves "Random". (;

Contrived Readily Assessed Plot?

Also note that it affected at least most if not all of the continental US, and as far as Haiti as well.

Not that that is impossible of course.

Which would be the low-point, I think.

This may in fact be the first time I've been severely disappointed with the show.

We were watching this wondering just how long that eclipse was going to last. Also didn't we see some of the current generation of people (season 1) using their powers before the previous eclipse. Such as Nathan accidentally flying out of the car.

I'll keep watching the show, but if they find out the catalyst is really Stride gum I'm never going to watch it again.

Darn, I've been hoping the eclipse thing might get hinted at by the end of Season 1. They made such a big deal of the eclipse in the first episode, but I couldn't figure out why. They didn't play it for thematic relevance, which is the only thing I could think it was for. Certainly just about everybody was already using their superpowers before the eclipse: Claire, Nathan, the Haitian, Isaac, Sylar, Nikki (sp?) and her boyfriend (husband? I forget) and I think her son... even Hiro managed to turn his clock backwards before the eclipse. The only one of the main Season 1 cast who didn't manifest powers before the eclipse, that I can think of, was Matt.

So you're saying that they're now trying to claim that an eclipse triggers a pile of new powers or something? I mean, that's not inconsistent but it certainly didn't have anything to do with the first season.

(I could see it working quite effectively as a metaphor or something, but like I said they never used it for that either. It was just, "Ooooh, look, an eclipse! Well, back to what I was doing.")

I don't want to spoil anything, but in the episode Eclipse Part 1 they make reference to the first time that Nathan flying being the day of the eclipse.

Maybe the eclipse is just coincidence and they are going to explain it down the road.

It wasn't, though. He flew just before the car accident, which was way before the show started.

Swell, they're not even keeping their own timelines straight. (Very comic-book-like, at least! ;)

While I can forgive the concept that all our heroes are Solar powered, I cannot forgive the way HRG acted.

HRG had Sylar in the crosshairs of his rifle scope, but chose to wait. Why? This isn't like him! Then 10 minutes later he charges in and starts shooting with a pistol. I can understand that he doesn't know that their powers don't work at that moment, but still a long-range ACCURATE powerful weapon will leave a much bigger hole then his 9mm pistol. To keep with his character, shoot first, go inspect the body, then empty the clip into his head at point-blank range.

Considering how good Dexter has gotten in the last 3 episodes, I don't think I can give the writers much more leeway before I give up on this show.

Make the characters stand for something
posted by J_W_W on December 3, 9:06 pm
What I'm beginning to hate most about this show is that there is no "character" to any of their characters. Almost every cast member this season has acted (some multiple times) at odds with their established character. And characters that have undergone big changes all seem to revert back to their old ways. Even worse some characters have devolved so badly that their storylines are very hard to even watch....

Sorry, I just couldn't resist that line. Also, I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment. Sylar's flip flops have been pathetic.

Yep. I'm a sucker for a heel-face turn, so I thought there was some potential here, but his sudden snap-back to his old ways was the last straw for me on this show.

Does anybody else think it odd that the ONLY consistent thing about this whole series is...

When SYLER kills somebody, they stay dead.
