Actually, I wasn’t specifying the current season. I kind of figured there’s always a coup, usually by the Vice President or by… whatever character the guy who plays the physicist from Numb3rs plays.

Mostly some special FX, like the "ascension-meter" thing they use to measure the fluctuating power levels.
Possibly just that scene… Anyway, back in the 80s, this movie had CGI and was proud of it.

My bad. I forgot (sort of) about that. What I was mainly thinking of is that a lot of anime in the past few years has been animated on computers, rather than longhand. I’m not talking CGI and 3D graphics, just in terms of drawing and coloring the animation using a computer. The first series that comes to mind that did this is Love Hina. Not that there’s anything wrong with animating a show this way – doing this helps avoid having less important episodes of a season having a significantly lower animation quality than the important plot episodes.
