StarTrek.com just announced that the series, which aired from 1973 to 1974, is now available to watch online for free.
I’ll let you people decide, individually, if this is a good thing or not. I for one will be getting caught up soon.

Not available in the UK, unfortunately. Boo!

Oh well…
“The video you have requested is not available on this device.”
Pity it’s not available here. The animation was subpar, but some of the eps had solid writing (Larry Niven, anyone?), it payed attention to continuity and, at the time, this and Gold Key comics were the only new Trek around.
I really liked the one where Spock goes back in time and meets up with himself as a young boy.
It’s called “Yesteryear” and it’s one of the most highly acclaimed Star Trek episodes. The producers of the show were afraid to kill off Spock’s pet, but no one complained about the episode’s content.
Some of us have the series on DVD. Not free, but just as flexible in the U.S., and way more flexible this far north…
