Just a few quick comments about it. First of all, I loved the entrance at the end of act one. Second, the speech at the end gave me chills. Third, don't hog the covers. Fourth, I don't trust Annabelle, and suspect she may have faked her own death to deliver information to the First. (She was the one holding all of the information from the Watchers' Council, and she was opposed to the idea of arming the new Slayers.) Fifth, I'm still not sure if the principal realizes what he's involved in, or even that he's involved. I suspect we'll have to wait until January for new episodes (since the next two Tuesdays are Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve) and I don't want to wait.

I just read this AICN article with spoilers about this episode. After reading point five, I watched the episode again. It's like a completely different show!

Point Five is the only real spoiler, and even than it's still speculation. It seems plausible, and I considered the possibility, but I'm still gonna keep it in the unconfirmed column.

I'd give reasons but then I'd give away the spoiler. :)

Okay, Two Things: My Work Firewall Won't Let Me View AICN, And Also: Is This A Spoiler For The Season, Or Just For Tonights Episode? If It's Just Tonights Episode (The One We All Watched Already) Can Someone Post Point 5?

This looks to be on the order of revealing that Ben and Glory were one and the same very early in season five.

Sure thing.

--If you're overly obsessive about seeing everything and figuring it out yourself, skip the following. I will note that I thought about this instantly, so I don't consider it a spoiler myself. Nevertheless, I will be a friendly soul and use the spoiler tag. Highlight below if you want info and opinion. :)--

Giles doesn't touch or interact with anything physically in the episode, which is obviously important because that is one of the key attributes of manifestations of The First. For example, look at who is carrying the books that Giles himself said he stole from the Council - why wouldn't he carry them? Also, Buffy has to drag herself out of the hole when getting away from her first encounter with the "uber vamp." Why would Giles have left the area at all? Finally, note that when he described The First and its abilities, he mentioned that it could not manifest in corporeal form - fine. He also mentions that The First can only take on the aspect of dead people, which seems to bode ill if the current Giles is a manifestation of The First. Of course, we've all seen something that only Spike has seen so far...namely, The First manifested itself to Spike as Buffy who certainly seems to be quite alive. Will the real Slim Shady, I mean Rupert Giles, please stand up?

Thank You Everyone Who Helped On This. I Don't Consider Speculation, Even REALLY Good Speculation Real Spoilers, Since They're Unconfirmed.

But, Yes, It's An Excellent Point For A Theory I Developped Myself. Now I Have To Go Point It Out To All My Friends Who Don't Spend Their Entire Work Day Reading About Buffy On The Web, So I Can Look Smart.

I Love This Site.

I hadn't read the spoiler, but it was still an obvious possibility, considering where things were left the last time we saw him.

I loved the character, even back then when she and spike were the villians du season. They chose a most appropriate actress, one who can portray that look of mad innocence and catlike playfulness. She really does play her part well. The dialogue they have gave her was well crafted. Her accent, as is most foreign accents to my mind, are enticing.

Hubba, Hubba (or the equivalent phrasology of the day)

When it comes to sci-fi series Buffy TVS is number one in my book. This episode showed more nefarious machinations as Buffy and the gang struggle to deal with the first. Giles brings in vampire slayers to be to gather the troops. Buffy, with little sleep is consoled by her moms spirit or the First in her guise. Spike is tortured by the first, then in the guise of Drucilla, is offered a chance to join the side of evil. Buffy's speech at the end was inspirational. A few questions are posed; their answers forthcoming and eagerly sought. In this, a classic storytellers skill is in evidence which thrills me and keeps me rivited.

For example is Giles really dead and the First replacing him? Think of it! Kill off the mentor. Gather all the other remaining vampire slayers together at one place, then send a powerful vampire after them that even a Vampire Slayer would have great difficulty with. Reveal you are the first to one and watch them run into your pet! Snacktime! Of course it could be any one of the Slayers to be as well! Who is the First? How do you fight off a thing as pervasive as a thought or mental image?

A minor note of curiousity though. Does anyone remember if and when Drucilla actually died? What I recall is she moved onto South America, then returned in an Angel episode at one point. It struck me as strange that the first, who mimics dead ...er... people chose her form as well. Come to think of it didn't Spike go to South America to go through his ordeal as well? It's got me wondering if Drucilla is playing "host" to the First. That would explain why the constant interest in Spike's turning. Well, its food for thought. If anyone does have any answer please feel free to let me know.

Sure. Drusilla died when she was turned into a vampire. Just like Spike, who we have also seen the First take the form of. Apparently the First can turn into anybody who has been dead, even if they subsequently came back to life (or unlife).

And I really, REALLY don't want the Giles theory to be true ... but come to think of it, they even made an M. Night Shamaylan reference this episode! Eek!

Did this remind anyone else of Normal Again from S6? When fake Joyce said, "Buffy, you've got to wake up," I thought at first that she meant "wake up from your fantasy world". It seemed to me that Buffy was almost afraid of falling asleep; like if she didn't stay awake she'd get dragged back into the "normal" world again. Is it mere coincidence that Normal Again is being rerun next week?

I kind of hope so. The thing that tried to possess Willow looks a lot like the thing that came out of the ground in Angel, so I'm hoping for a cataclysmic two-front war fought across both shows by the end of the season.
