Terminator: Sarah Connors Chronicles Discussion

bombadil writes, I’m eagerly awaiting a discussion post for the Terminator: Sarah Connors Chronicles series so I can discuss how they jumped the shark this episode!
Please!

  1. Spoiler tag? Obviously there’s spoilers, we’re discussing the episode!
I thought it was actually pretty good. I liked the way she went psycho and hunted him down, true Relentless Terminator style. I liked the begging, and how watching it you’re sure it’s a trick. I thought John was an idiot for plugging her back in, and I think it’s still dubious on if she’s on their side or not.

I was pretty happy with the episode.

I think she’s legitimately better. I really like the part where she tells Sarah to "never let him do that again."

Oh, and Garbage’s lead singer is _great_ in the episode as well. The reveal of her at the end just had me going "whoa."

Yes, I didn’t know it was her at all! But she did a great job. I loved the song at the beginning (There’s a torrent out there if anyone is looking…)

My wife and I kept making Garbage song title jokes… Things like "I bet she’s only happy when it rains." and "I think she’s paranoid" :)

  2. Jump the shark…
    1. If SkyNet’s goal is to send the T-1000 (now available in Ginger!) to insure SkyNet gets built… Why bother with the "Turk" at all? Why not just use the advanced technology in the T-1000 to jump-start SkyNet? Clearly the T-1000 has enough A.I. at least to run a multinational corporation. The "Turk" is an abacus compared to the T-1000.

    2. Why hide as a man’s urinal in the mensroom?! WTF? She’s the boss. Just ask the dept. head to come to her office and spike him. That makes no sense at all beside the show’s writers wanting to use that special-effect. Even so, it would have been more impressive to have her call him to her office and point an accusing finger at him, then when he back-talked have that finger plunge through him.

    3. Why kill the dept. head at all? Doesn’t that lead to a body to dispose of and other complications that are unnecessary? Just fire him. The T-1000 is the boss. It makes no sense!

    4. Why not send the T-1000 back to 1800 and start SkyNet then when there can be no effective defense against it?

    • Re: Jump the shark…
      It’s a T-1001.

And also, jumping back to 1800 would make no sense, they did not have the industrial base.

We don’t know enough about how time travel works – SkyNet might not be able to completely create itself out of nothing, it might need the Turk already in place from a past time line, but can "nudge" it along. We just don’t know how much cause and effect can be bent by time travel.

I don’t get the killing as a urinal thing either, though.

T:SCC has to be enjoyed as the Loony Toons cartoon it is. It is a mixture of incredibly deep memes on AI that are critical for humans to address as a species, and slapstick action like the Three Stooges and Daffy Duck, where the stick of TNT goes off and the face of our hero is only slightly scuffed, not turned into hamburger. I’ve given up being critical on the show, just enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts. Here a T-1000 as a urinal is just a setup for a "pissed off" joke, nothing more.

I somewhat agree. Once you start to really think about the paradoxes, you can’t really enjoy the show. You can’t ever unravel the paradoxes anyway.

  3. Didn’t care for the premiere
I can get past the logical inconsistencies in this show, if for no other reason than the whole thing is based on time travel.

What I can’t get past is the fact that the pacing and structure of the episode were awful. We got a scene left out for dramatic effect which Sarah and John danced around describing for the rest of the episode, and there were 4 different sets of actions going on simultaneously throughout. The way all of it was put together left me disoriented. I felt like I was being jerked around between 4 different situations in an episode that didn’t have room for more than 2 of them, all the while I’m missing important things from each.

I’m sure it’ll settle down some next episode, and hopefully they can get their groove back. As it is, the creators didn’t make this particular fan of the abbreviated first season happy, and I’ll be watching future episodes despite this one.

I don’t think that was for dramatic effect … i suspect that was necessary for establishing a future plot point and character development.

just as we didn’t know what the deal was with teh girl who jumped off the roof for a few episodes last year, and just like we didn’t know who killed Andy until the very end of last season, i suspect we’ll find out in an episode or two that John killed the guy in that room (not sarah), and he’s going to have problems dealing with being a killer — problems that the audience won’t fully grasp at first.

I’m not a huge fan of this show — but i do give them credit for being bold enough to leave things unsaid and unknown, and then reveal them casually later without making a huge deal about it, and forcing the audience to piece things together. (it’s not in the same league as "The Wire", but it’s in the same sport)

I don’t think I’ve missed any episodes, but I don’t know what the deal was with the girl who jumped off the roof, and the mysterious graffiti on the door. What did I miss?

  4. Skynet’s plan, not flawed.
    Hi,

People wonder why Skynet isn’t more ambitions in its plan.

Because the result would be unpredictable.

Remember: in the future, the machines won. Humans are but a fringe of rebels being killed one by one.

What’s the plan? Since humans send people back in time to change the future, Skynet wants to make sure it ends up the same.
